Dr. Connie McKoy
Marion Stedman Covington Distinguished Professor of Music @School of Music, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Connie McKoy is Marion Stedman Covington Distinguished Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Music at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in music education. A native of Fayetteville, NC, she holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and earned both master’s and Ph.D. degrees in music education from UNCG. For 19 years, she served as a lead teacher, general music teacher, and school choral director. Dr. McKoy’s research focuses on music teachers' cross-cultural competence and culturally responsive teaching in music. She co-authored the book Culturally Responsive Teaching in Music Education: From Understanding to Application, published by Routledge. In 2017 & 2019, Dr. McKoy participated in the Yale Symposium on Music in Schools. She is a past president of the North Carolina Music Educators Association and a past chair of Society for Music Teacher Education.

Mickey Smith Jr. was named the GRAMMY Music Educator Award national recipient for 2020. As an Educator-Encourager Mickey provides a motivational mixture of education & entertainment. Mickey currently teaches music (grades 1-8) at The Greene School in West Palm Beach, FL.
